(Back to Enjoyable Births)

Induced birth with Hypnobabies.

I have never posted before, but have been lurking for months :).  I
just want to let everyone know that Hypnobabies is awesome and it
really works!

First I just want to remind you moms that are at term or maybe even
past your due date to please be thankful for healthy pregnancies and
full term babies!  I have noticed so many posts expressing such
frustration and anxiety because they are over due and uncomfortable--
I have had two pregnancies like that and I know it's hard, but let
me tell you-- it is so much harder and scary to have the pregnancy
end early and have a potentially unhealthy baby with complications.
Not to mention the problems little babies have with eating and
latching on to the breast properly (which unfortunately my baby has
never been able or willing to do- that in itself was heartbreaking
for me) Even bottles are hard at first.

I just hope we can all count our blessings-- whether we have a big
baby born two weeks past our due date, or a teeny baby born early.
Good luck to you all and keep practicing your Hypnobabies or
hypnobirthing-- these programs are awesome!

Unfortunately, my pregnancy ended earlier than I had anticipated
because I had high blood pressure, the baby was measuring Small for
gestation (over 3 weeks smaller than she should have) and there was
little amniotic fluid.  As it turns out, my placenta was really
small.  I was induced 3 1/2 weeks early.  Labor was intense (only 4
hrs 45 min), but I was able to relax through it by listening to my
Hypnobabies scripts on my mp3 player.

Since I was pretty much strapped to the bed with all the Iv's and monitors I just laid
there and concentrated. My husband told me he thinks I was amazing
during labor-- he said most of the time it seemed like I was asleep
because I was so relaxed.  He has been telling everyone about the
experience and how awesome I did and how great Hypnobabies is (yes
he is a very sweet guy). This is my third baby, second that I
planned to have with out any meds and even with the pitocin, it was
so much easier than my last one because I practiced Hypnobabies a
lot more this time (I tried hypnobirthing last time and didn't put
in enough time practicing).

The only time it got harder than I thought I could handle was after my water was broken only 45 minutes before my baby's birth.  After that the baby's heart rate began to drop more and more with every contraction so they were flipping me over constantly and I don't know how many people were in the room (lots).  I can say I lost my concentration and relaxation at that point, but there wasn't long to go...

My Midwife (CNM) came in and checked me and I was dilated to an 8, but because of the problems with the baby, she held back the lip of my cervix and told me to start pushing.  With no urge to push yet, things were a bit more difficult for me(that's putting it nicely) but the baby's head was small and she needed to come out so somehow I did it.  My sweet baby girl was born weighing only 3 lbs 12 oz, but thankfully she could breathe just fine.

The cord had been wrapped around her neck which is what caused the drop in her heart rate.  They let me hold her for a couple minutes and then had to take her away to the Nicu. Even though she had to go to the Nicu for 9 days, she only had minor complications and needed to gain enough weight to regulate her body temperature and show she could eat enough from a bottle to continue to grow, before she could go home.  She went home weighing 4 lbs and at 2 months is already 9 lbs 7 oz!

She went home on the bottle (pumped milk) and I tried to get her to breastfeed for the first 2 months, but even with help, she just wouldn't do it.  While that has been extremely hard for me, I am so thankful for a healthy baby and a wonderful birth experience.  Maybe some people wouldn't think of this as wonderful, but I had prepared myself for the possibility of things not going exactly as I had planned.  Sure, I would have liked everything to have gone perfectly-- full term baby, labor starting naturally, breastfeeding immediately, etc... Instead, I have chosen to think of how much worse it could have been (the midwife said my baby may not have lived another week if she wouldn't have been born) and remember the positive things that have happened and now I have a beautiful, chubby, happy baby girl who adds so much to our family.

Thanks Hypnobabies!!!
